Passing the Torch

The Baptist Student Ministry at West Texas A&M has a 104-year legacy of reaching, equipping, and mobilizing students for the sake of the Gospel. Countless lives have been eternally changed because of the WT BSM. Our new building is a symbol of our expectation that the long legacy of Gospel ministry at WT will continue for generations to come.

Our Vision

The West Texas A&M BSM exists to LOVE our campus by sharing the Gospel, LEAD students into a relationship with Christ, and LAUNCH from our campus. A new BSM building will help fulfill our vision by providing a space for students to make friends, form community, hear and respond to the Gospel, become equipped, and be sent out as disciple-makers. We also serve as the hub for campus ministries to Amarillo College, Clarendon College, and Frank Phillips College.

OUR FUTURE

West Texas A&M University has grown to a student population that exceeds 9,000. BSM has a bright future. Our commitment remains steadfast: to welcome students, not just from our local community, but also from across the United States and beyond. During this pivotal time of transformation in students' lives, we stand ready to support and serve them on their journey. The BSM ministry will continue to thrive at WT as we remain dedicated to nurturing leaders who will ardently follow Christ, actively engage with their communities, and ultimately catalyze positive global change for the glory of God as they move on from WT.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why a New Building?

The existing BSM facility, constructed in 1952, has dutifully served generations of students. Regrettably, despite being well cared for, it is no longer safe for occupancy and will soon face condemnation.

What are the immediate plans?

Three years ago, Texas Baptists strategically purchased adjacent property to the BSM. This space will serve as our ministry headquarters while we raise funds and construct a new facility. We are grateful for God's provision, allowing us to keep a campus presence during this unexpected transition.

Why not meet on campus permanently?

We recognize the importance of having a dedicated space for our ministry. We have experienced difficulty reserving adequate-sized spaces on campus. Owning our own facility allows us to be prepared for a future in which the campus environment might not be conducive to openly expressing our faith.

What is the projected timeline?

Our immediate focus is on raising funds for the new

BSM building, which we hope to secure within 18 to 36 months, When 80% is raised, the construction phase will begin. This is expected to take around one year. Due to the limited space in our temporary location and the size of our group, the majority of gatherings will take place on campus.
